Character Canon: OU, Guardians of the Galaxy movie (2014)
Character Age: We don't actually know. The actor is about 45, though, so I'm going to go with that.
Character Gender: Male.
Canon Point: Shortly after the movie.
Character Canon History: Drax is a member of an unknown species from an unknown planet, presumably somewhere in the Nova Empire. After Ronan murdered his wife and daughter, Drax went on a roaring rampage of revenge. He murdered a lot of people - enough to earn the epithet 'the Destroyer' - and got locked up in the Kyln, one of the Nova Empire's uglier prisons. He was presumably there for a while before the other Guardians of the Galaxy showed up.
Peter Quill talks him out of murdering Gamora, as she's betrayed Ronan which is likely to lure him after her. So it would be more useful for Drax to keep her alive. Drax goes along with this, then hitches a ride when Quill, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot make their escape. At Knowhere, when everyone is getting drunk while Gamora and Quill wait for their contact, Drax manages to piss off the rest of the team. He wanders off by himself while they deal with the Collector, then gets the BRILLIANT idea to call Ronan to Knowhere so he can have the fight he's been wanting.
Ronan kicks his ass and drowns him in what might be a Celestial's spinal fluid. Groot fixes the drowning. Drax goes, "wow, I fucked up" after Rocket yells at him some, then three of them band together to rescue Quill and Gamora from Quill's adoptive father and his pirate crew. After some more fuss, where they basically come to the conclusion that going up against Ronan with the Infinity Gem is suicide and they're going to do it anyway, they head off to do some righteous fighting. It is kind of fucking awesome.
Afterwards, they're all pardoned of their crimes in the Nova Empire, and Drax still hasn't put a shirt on.
Character Personality: Drax is drowning in rage and grief. What he was like before his wife and daughter were murdered, almost all of that is gone now. He lives to kill those who took his loved ones from him. He's also not terribly picky about who he kills or who gets caught in the crossfire. (He had a death-wish, though he never recognized it as such.)
Meeting the other Guardians and fighting alongside them, then working to save the galaxy from Ronan, saved him. It was the first time in years he looked outside of himself, and the first time he ever put any of the rage and grief to rest. It still storms inside of him, but he has friends, people to live for, rather than people to die fighting for. He will die for them, though, if necessary. They are his _friends_. (He doesn't realize how cheap he holds his own life.)
Of course, then he decided he needed to kill Thanos to truly deal with the source of his wife and daughter's murder. (He has no idea what to do without a goal like that. How can he go back to what he was? His old life almost feels like a dream. He remembers it, but he can't really understand being that person anymore.)
Like many people, he makes really stupid decisions while drunk.
Character Abilities: Enhanced strength, impact-resistant skin, and advanced cellular regeneration, according to the trailer. So he's not too bothered by being shot or by blows from blunt objects, and when he is bothered by things, he heals up quickly. He is also a skilled knife-fighter.
He has perhaps above-average intelligence, but most people don't notice this on account of his difficulty with metaphors. I'd like to play it that his native language is NOT the one translated by Saeng Seong. What SS translates is the equivalent of GalStandard in the MCU. Drax is mostly proficient in that, but he doesn't understand metaphors at all. Translating between his native language and GalStandard is difficult because of that problem.
Character Inventory: Pants. Boots with sheaths on the outside calf for his knives. Three to four good knives.
Interaction Sample: In which Drax talks to people at a festival about a raccoon plush.
Third Person Sample: Drax finds it difficult to relax in Saeng Seong. It is too peaceful. His hands reach for his knives too often - it is only Peter's admonition ("this is why you don't have any friends!") that keeps him from unsheathing one. He thinks he would feel better with the feel of it in his hand, though.
He draws his hand back, fingers curling into a fist. No. The place he is going is not for knife-fighting.
A smile appears and almost instantly disappears from his face. It isn't for knife-fighting. It is for hand-to-hand.
